Never been an Animal Collective fan. They seem cool enough, but i just haven't gotten into them. However, their "drummer", Panda Bear, released a solo album a couple years ago that i really liked. Weird sample collages mixed with Beach Boys-esque vocals. Very neat.
Panda Bear's new album is more catchy and more guitar based. While it lacks a lot of what i liked so much about the last album, i have to say i enjoy it more.
"This music is the glue of the world, Mark. It's what holds it all together. Without this, life would be meaningless".
Don't steal music! This is music for my friends to check out so we can all be on the same page. Borrow these tunes, listen a dozen-ish times... then decide if you should buy it or delete it. xoxo

More TV on the Radio
I have listened to the new TVOTR album straight through a couple of times now (thanks, internet!), and i must say my opinion is raising. It is a very different type of music from what they did eight years ago when i first got into them, but what good band keeps doing the same thing for that long?
One big factor in shaping my high opinion of the album has been this movie:
Apparently, the TV guys have decided to do what i dearly love, and make a full movie-length companion to the album. Much like Sonic Youth's "GOO" before it, it is essentially a collection of music videos for each song, however the thread that holds it together really helps to color your impression of what they are going for. Plus, it makes more sense out of the fact that the first song on the album is titled "the second song".
GO GET IT!

NEW TV ON THE RADIO IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My vinyl copy of "nine types of light" is waiting at Ear X-tacy, and i won't have time to pick it up until Friday. BOOOOO
I have previewed is a little, and i'm not sure i am going to feel about it. Hopefully, it is one of those really great albums that takes a while to sink in. All of their previous releases have been that way for me. But the is something a little less adventurous and certainly less noisy... We shall see.
Meanwhile, i LOVED the single the moment it came out. Just saw the video today, and love it equally much.
Plus, the video that started it all for me!

Best 90s song and video?
EDIT:
I should mention that a recent All Songs Considered podcast has me in the thros of a shallow 90s nostalgia period. After listening to this song perhaps a half dozen times on repeat, i just COULDN't find any flaws in it. Plus the live video with all the throwing of stuff and mic dropping just makes it even cooler. This was the song that turned me on to NIN when "head like a hole" hadn't done it - i blame the video for that. Do i really think this is the best 90s song ever? Hell no! OF course not... but it is fun to use hyperbole.

Baths for James
Nope, not an indictment of James' hygiene habits. This is a post about the musician called Baths. I told Jamesi would post it, because i thought he would be particularly into it.
Here are 3 (count 'em, three!) videos of my three favorite songs of his. The first video is freaking radical, to boot!
If you really dig the dude, here's a link to an upload someone gave for the whole album.
baths * Cerulean - - - GET IT!!!!
